Guest Speaker: KFI Talk Show Host Joe Hicks

"Who Runs L.A.? The Movers & Shakers: Corruption, Scandal and All-Around Craziness From the Halls of Power in the City of Angels

Joe Hicks is the Vice President of Community Advocates, Inc., a privately-funded political think-tank that was created to counter the prevailing views that retard further growth in the arena of race and human relations. Community Advocates is based in Los Angeles

Prior to co-founding Community Advocates, Hicks was the Executive Director of the Los Angeles City Human Relations Commission, where he served from 1997 to 2001 under Mayor Richard Riordan. In the early 1990s, Hicks was Executive Director of the Greater Los Angeles chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the civil rights group formed by Martin Luther King, Jr.

For more than 30 years, Hicks has been an active, high-profile figure on countless local, national, and international issues. He has acquired a reputation as an articulate, forceful public speaker. His comments and opinion articles have appeared often in local, national and international print media, and he has been a guest on numerous local and national television news programs. Hicks served for three years as a member of the Board of Governors for the California State Bar, stepping down in 2002.

Throughout the turbulent Sixties, as well as the 1970s, '80s and much of the 90s, Hicks views were aligned with what he describes as the "prevailing left- liberal political orthodoxy." He was well-known as a forceful voice for so-called "progressive social change." But no longer: By the mid-1990s Hicks had begun a lengthy re-examination process that has resulted in views that he describes as "proudly contrarian." Today, he holds provocative positions and views that are most often at odds with the beliefs he had long been associated with. He now describes himself as a "political conservative with a strong libertarian bent."

Active on the national lecture circuit, Hicks is currently writing a book that examines his 30- year journey across the nation's racial and political landscape. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Elizabeth, and his daughters, Katarina and Natasha.

The Joe Hicks Show is on 640 KFI on Saturdays from 8PM to 10PM weekly.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - A military jury sentenced Sgt. Hasan Akbar to death Thursday for a grenade and rifle attack on his own comrades during the opening days of the Iraq invasion, a barrage that killed two officers and that prosecutors said was driven by religious extremism.

It was a morning March 2003 attack, which also wounded 14 fellow members of the Army's 101st Airborne Division at Camp Pennsylvania in Kuwait.

Akbar threw grenades into troop tents in the early morning darkness and then fired on soldiers in the ensuing chaos. Army Capt. Chris Seifert 27, and Air Force Maj. Gregory Stone 40, were killed. Maj. Andras M. Marton was the other officer in the tent who survived the grenade attack.

Other Guest Speakers
Gail Flaum with the Twilight Brigade. Their bedside volunteers provide comfort, reassurance, and compassionate support to the dying and their loved ones. The Twilight Brigade has assisted and comforted thousands of individuals during their final days and hours of life. We have received numerous awards from the highest levels of the Veterans' & Armed Forces' administrations, as well as from U.S. Presidents, for our work in assuring that all our veterans are allowed to die in peace and with dignity.

Robert L. Lauer, U.S. Army Military Police, Executive Director of WarriorPac.org. The armed forces of the United States of America are unquestionably the finest in the world. With more than 1.4 million personnel on active duty and a presence in more than 130 countries worldwide, the U.S. Military is the global guarantor of peace, stability and liberty.

However, while America's soldiers protect our lives and liberties, there remains no political organization dedicated to protecting them. Of the hundreds of lobbying groups and political action committees on Capitol Hill, none of them seek to represent the needs of our active duty personnel. And while veterans groups are well represented, the men and women currently serving have no political voice in Congress and no way to get their message to our nation's lawmakers.

WarriorPAC seeks to change that.
